Dear Children's Action Network member, State lawmakers are considering denying 17,000 families a child care subsidy they are counting on in order to go to work.
Imagine being a working parent and finding out your child care costs would double or triple - rising out of reach of your budget. What would you do? No parent should have to face this decision.
Ask your lawmaker to protect funding for Working Connections Child Care.
Parents all over the state count on Working Connections to help them cover the high cost of child care so they can go to work. If this proposed cut becomes law families will lose their subsidy. Other families won’t be able to find work because they’ll be turned down when they seek help paying for child care.
The recession is pushing families to the brink of survival. Last year, our leaders cut billions of dollars from programs kids and families count on. Families, kids and our state, can’t take any more cuts. Kids growing up now can’t wait for the economy to recover to get their needs met and grow up safe and healthy. It’s time for a balanced approach that will raise significant revenue, and protect programs like Working Connections.
At the same time as legislators are debating the funding for Working Connections, a bill has been introduced to strengthen the program. HB 3141 will help ensure stable continuity of care for kids and streamline paperwork for parents and providers.
Sincerely, Jon Jon Gould, Deputy
